Severe cystic acne, what is it? Unless you are from another galaxy, there are not too many people that will not have heard of acne in some way, shape or form. Cystic acne is just one name given to a specific type of acne under the acne condition umbrella. Severe cystic acne is the worst form of this unsympathetic condition, which has until recently been viewed upon as un-curable.
Natural acne treatments are being mentioned and spoken about in great depth, but what is the severity of the condition that it has to combat in order to achieve recognition?
Acne is a very complex condition and there are many factors responsible as to why it affects certain people and not others. What is known, specifically with severe cystic acne is, that although it can affect anyone, it is more common in teenage boys and young men and distressingly the all too obvious symptoms are highly visible as it appears on the face and neck, although the back and shoulders can also be affected.
There are many theories as to the causes of severe cystic acne and the blame cannot be laid at any one particular door, but the outward acne symptoms are a sure fire sign that the body is trying to send a message that something is wrong on the inside and needs some help.
The unsightly cystic acne pimples or scars are formed when a number of factors come together and the right environment is created, resulting in excessive production of sebum on the skin, which is mainly triggered by an imbalance of hormones in the body. (Hence the reason for the large proportion of teenage acne sufferers when they hit puberty).
The psychological effects of having such a debilitating condition can never be measured, but it stands to reason that, as an acne sufferer any treatments, natural or otherwise that claim to cure the condition would be welcome with open arms, and worth a thorough investigation at the very least.
So, what do the medical profession recommend for the outward symptoms of severe cystic acne? The drug of choice is called Isotretinoin. Research shows that it has had some successes but not without problems. It works by making the sebaceous glands in the skin smaller and reducing the amount of sebum produced, so lessening oil productions which cause the scars and pimples.
But the side effects of the drug are still provoking controversy. In order to have the effects needed to rid the sufferer of severe cystic acne, Isotretinoin has been shown to damage the skins sebum or oil glands and also liver function. Once the damage has been done to the liver, it can never recover enough to carry out one of its functions which is to aid hormone balance within the body. As previously mentioned hormones are triggers in excess sebum being produced.
The other effect isotretinoin has on the body is to help your skin shed any dead skin cells in a more normal way. It also improves metabolism of fat and helps to reduce any inflammation. But, any of these effects can be achieved without the use of drugs and the possible unwanted side effects. Food stuffs that contain vitamin a and beta carotene can help reduce the over production of sebum and there are other alternative natural acne cure products available also.
To live with cystic acne on a daily basis would be difficult for most non sufferers to comprehend. But, that, to find a cure would be of paramount important goes without saying. So, is it time to help the body help itself without the use of drugs and start treating severe cystic acne from the inside out, helping the whole body and not just the outwardly visible scars and pimples?
