Onion for Healing Acne Scars

Onion is the essential taste giver in some of your favorite dishes. But, did you ever think of using it topically to treat your acne? Perhaps, you're frowning at the very thought of it! Yes, it makes you cry and is not a pleasant smelling thing to apply on your face, but you're sure to disregard that drawback, once you understand that it's pretty much effective in treating acne scars. Now that you're keen on learning that magic formula, let's get into the details!
What are the positive attributes of onion to help your skin? It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that have helped in treating some internal ailments. From something as simple as fixing your appetite, to reducing the risk of colon cancer, onion has remarkable medicinal properties. Onion juice is known to give positive results in treating scar tissue and also influences collagen production. But, before you begin to treat your acne scars, make sure that your acne is under control. There are several ways to control your acne, be it applying topical lotions or adopting an acne diet. Treating from inside out is always better.
Acne scars generally appear in two forms - raised over the skin, and depressed, i.e. saucer-shaped. They form when damaged skin layers under the epidermis, i.e. the outermost skin layer, result in the production of excessive collagen fibers, which in turn, disturb the skin pattern and show as scars. Onion extract controls collagen production and is particularly useful in clearing keloid scars - a type of scar caused by collagen buildup over acne, resulting in a raised area. At the same time, onion extract stimulates collagen production when applied on depressed scars, making the skin more resilient and reducing the depth of the saucer-like scars.
An onion mask effectively heals your acne scars. Grind one peeled medium-sized onion in your food processor to make a paste, and mix it with 3 tablespoons of oatmeal that is already softened by pouring boiling water over it and keeping aside for five minutes. Make sure that the oatmeal is still warm. You may also add honey if it is not thick enough. Apply it on your face, leave for five minutes and rinse off with warm water. The mix will stay fresh for a week in your refrigerator. Alternatively, mix a tablespoon each of onion juice, carrot juice and olive oil with the yolk of one egg. Apply the mix on your face and wash after 20 minutes. It has a noticeable toning effect.
The brownish acne marks left behind by pimples eventually fade, but they are also likely to become stubborn scars. You must remember that squeezing or picking your pimples increases the risks of scarring. Acne scar treatment depends on the extent of your scars. Severe scars may require the intervention of a dermatologist, who may suggest remedies, ranging from the simple chemical peel to the expensive and complex laser resurfacing. So, if you wish to take a wise approach, it's important to understand that acne is chronic, starting at puberty and continuing into adulthood. Whatever natural acne remedies you try, make sure that you're committed and consistent!

Tips on How to Have the Most Beautiful Skin

Every person wants to have beautiful skin. Unfortunately, people suffer from various problems, the most common of which are blackheads. Black spots appear on different parts of the body (nose, forehead, chin, cheeks, back) and can be very unattractive. Getting rid of these small black pimples is not easy, however if you want to have a clean skin you need to discover ways on how to eliminate this problem.
To get rid of blackheads once and for good, it is recommended consulting professional dermatologist. Only a qualified healthcare specialist can recommend adequate and effective treatment. However, if the black spots are not numerous and do not cause much discomfort, you can try to solve this skin problem on your own.
Blackheads appear as the result of excessive production of sebum. The oil contacts with dirt which blocks the pores, and we have these tiny black spots. To make a scrub you can use a mixture of blended oat flakes, haricot beans and ground coffee. Gently scrub the face with this mixture and wash it with cool water. To close the pores you may wipe the face with a slice of cucumber or tomato.
Use Natural Lotions
There is no need to have special knowledge to create a cleansing lotion. Just take a slice of lemon, put a few drops of honey on it and wipe the affected areas. Leave the lotion for a few minutes and wash is with cool water.
Homemade Masks

Acne and Age

One of the bitter truths about acne is that you are never too old for it. Acne doesn't necessarily vanish once you have crossed teenage. It is common to see people frowning at their pimples in their twenties, thirties and even forties. The good news is that acne is treatable regardless of your age. Awareness is the key, so why not get some more enlightenment on this issue?
Most of us know how teen acne occurs. It is caused by hormonal fluctuations that result in excessive production of skin oil due to overactive sebaceous glands in your skin. Over the counter lotions and creams that help remove the excessive oil can reduce breakouts to some extent. Combined with a daily cleansing routine, teen acne can be addressed by a good number of acne home remedies and topical treatments. However, adult acne needs to be treated differently. The treatment depends on whether it is late-onset acne or persistent acne. The former occurs unexpectedly notwithstanding your generally clear skin, while the latter persists from your teenage.
What are the possible causes and implications of adult acne? Other than hormonal imbalances, adult acne can be attributed to several factors including genetics and lifestyle, particularly stress. In women, the predominant causes are pregnancy, menstruation and sometimes menopause. Side effects of certain medications, stopping birth control pills and over use of oil-based cosmetic products can also cause acne. In some instances, acne may be indicative of an underlying health condition or disorder. For instance, breakouts together with excessive facial hair, thinning scalp hair, overweight and irregular menstrual cycle could indicate a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome. The disorder is caused by high androgen and low estrogen levels and imposes risks of infertility. Acne with fatigue may indicate thyroid issues. Similarly, sudden breakouts accompanied by unusual thirst could indicate diabetes. In the case of type 2 diabetes, which hinders your body's wound-healing capability, treating acne could be difficult.
Again, don't be intimidated because there are innumerable acne remedies. Firstly, when you face a sudden acne breakout in your adulthood, it is advisable to consult a doctor and get checked for any underlying disorders. Treating any underlying problems will address the acne as well. But, if there is no such cause, the basis of your acne treatment would be an appropriate skin care regimen. This is because adult skin is generally more sensitive than teen age skin and needs mild cleansing products. Opt for products containing mild concentrations of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. Such acne products can destroy the acne-causing bacteria and encourage exfoliation to promote the growth of healthy skin. Use non-comedogenic moisturizers that prevent pore-clogging. If your acne is too stubborn, it is wise to consult a dermatologist, who may prescribe Accutane, tretinoin or antibiotics.
Observe your lifestyle and incorporate stress-management activities, such as getting enough sleep, proper exercise, meditation, etc. This will help your body control the production of excessive stress hormones that can inflict harm to your skin. Obesity contributes to recurrent acne by increasing androgen levels that trigger your oil glands. Managing stress and weight is vital for natural acne cure.

Alternative to Conventional Acne Treatments

Acne is one of the many health issues that don't have a catch all cure. It is a complex condition with many possible causes. Treating acne is not a simple thing, which is why conventional acne treatments don't always work. Usually when a patient suffers from this, he will be prescribed with antibiotics and topical treatments that are way too strong and drying. Common pimple cures often lead to a more irritated skin and sunken self esteem. Not only that, conventional medications for pimples are often way too pricey and require sticking to a strict skin care routine that involves a lot of products. If you have tried a number of common pimple products and pills that did not work, then it is time to consider a more generalized approach to getting clear skin. Holistic programs are designed to treat pimples and spots from within by getting to the root cause of the problem. These holistic treatments make great alternatives to conventional acne cures.
Acne No More
This program is among the conventional acne treatments currently available. This is an all natural holistic remedy that was created by a nutrition expert and who once had skin problems. This program eliminates the need for conventional acne treatments like benzoyl peroxide and monocycline. It also prevents patients from going through the much dreaded accutane treatment. With this program, hormonal imbalance that causes spots can be corrected. It is a combo of all natural home remedies to cure scars and a sensible diet of skin clearing food to treat the patient from within.
The Acne Diet
This is another option for those who want to free themselves from conventional acne treatments. This is a diet based approach that promises a healthier and clearer skin without resorting to typical strong pimple medications. This is a new age approach to dealing with skin issues and involves the use of food supplements and a diet with minimal high glycemic foods such as breads and pastries. It also encourages drinking 8 to 10 cups of water daily.
The Vitamin Cocktail
One good way to do away with conventional acne treatments is to try the Vitamin Cocktail. This "miracle" cocktail promises to eliminate the problem in weeks of regular intake. This involves drinking a specific combination of food supplements. Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Zinc, and Borage seed oil are the components of the vitamin cocktail.

How To Cure Acne Naturally Without Buying Anything Whatsoever

Is it possible to cure your acne without buying anything whatsoever? Yes, it's possible. And I won't even suggest you to buy certain fruits and change your diet (though it is important for you to know that changing your diet is important). But, in this article, I'm going to share some acne clearing tips that are completely free. Here are some tips that you should apply to cure your acne naturally (please take away your wallet!):
1. Learn To Do Deep Breathing Exercise
Do you have shallow breath? Please observe your breathing activity right now. Do you have short, hurrying breath? If so, then you have to change how you breathe (at least for 10 minutes per day). Learn to do deep breathing exercise to keep your mind calm and balanced. It is preferable for you to do this in open space, where the air is clear and in abundance. Do this exercise for at least 10 minutes a day in the morning or evening (and don't forget to smile).
2. Sleep More Effectively
Sleep earlier and wake up earlier. This will help you to restore the balance of your body. It is important to keep your body in balance in order to give it the necessary environment to cure your acne. When you have lack of sleep (sleeping late until midnight and sleeping only few hours per day), you're robbing your body of its natural healing ability. So, you should give your body enough sleep every day (such as 8-hour sleep from 9 PM to 5 AM). Also, give your body about 2 hours nap during the day (to energize your body and eliminate tiredness during the day).
3. Meditate Often
Meditation can help you to keep your mind calm, as well as to keep it under control. If you get mad easily or if you're being too critical with everything around you, then you'll likely have a disturbed mind and this can easily cause stress and often depression. When you meditate often, you will connect with the deeper you that will keep guiding you into balance. This is important to cure your acne effectively.
4. Practice Yoga
Yoga is a set of exercise that is useful to promote peace of mind and healthy body. You should practice yoga at least 30 minutes per day (it will help you to clear you skin from acne). If you don't know anything about yoga, you can browse YouTube (there are many "yoga for beginners" videos out there) and practice some forms of yoga that you consider easy. It will help to keep your body and mind relaxed. This relaxed condition is important if you want to really clear your skin from acne naturally.
5. Keep Your Mood High
You can't cure your acne if you keep your mood on the low level (I guarantee it!). Thus, you can't cure your acne if you face your life as a depressed, stressed-out person that has no hope at all in this world. This shouldn't be your attitude toward acne freedom. If you really want to free yourself from acne, you have to keep your mood high. Keep your optimism. Keep your joy and spirit. Attract happy thoughts, not sad thoughts (and so on, that's quite a bit of motivation for you). In summary, you have to keep your mood high (and avoid falling into low mood level).
So, those are the ways to cure your acne naturally without buying anything. Apply those tips now and you'll see the improvement in your skin very quickly! Did you want to know about a thorough natural treatment that will help you to heal your acne to the root? Click here to learn more about the natural healing method that can help to eliminate your acne once and for all.

FabIndia Tea Tree Skin Toner Review

Hello beautiful,
Today I am reviewing FabIndia's Tea Tree Skin Toner. As my skin is oily, applying a toner after washing my face has been an important part of my daily skincare routine. Toners help in soothing your skin and restore the pH balance of your face after a wash. It helps in keeping the shiny skin in check. I am a regular user of this toner and I start getting frequent acne breakouts if I stop using it. :(
This is the first FabIndia's product that I have used and I am really happy with it.
Before I begin with the review of the product, let me first explain what tea tree oil is-
Tea tree oil, or melaleuca oil, is an essential oil with a fresh camphoraceous odor and a color that ranges from pale yellow to nearly colorless and clear.[1] It is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia, which is native to Southeast Queensland and the Northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. Tea tree oil should not be confused with tea oil, the sweet seasoning and cooking oil from pressed seeds of the tea plant Camellia sinensis (beverage tea) or the tea oil plant Camellia oleifera.
About the product: An alcohol-free skin toner with tea tree oil that controls sebum and clears blemishes.
Directions for use: After washing your face and neck, spray the skin toner onto a cotton swab and gently stroke in an upward direction. Avoid contact with eyes.
Ingredients: Purified water, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Polysorbate 20, Imid Urea, Tea Tree Oil, Salicylic Acid, Neem Extract, Turmeric Extract.
Net contents: 100 ml
Price: 135 INR
Shelf life: 36 months. Store in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Natural ingredients may cloud or separate, this does not affect the quality or efficacy of the product.
Availability: Mostly all local stores stock it. You can also buy it from FabIndia's outlets or online.
My experience with the product-
FabIndia is a trusted brand and I picked it up upon my cousin's referral. I was happy with the fact that it has salicylic acid which is effective against acne and blemishes. Tea tree oil is famous for its antibacterial properties and helps in reducing allergic skin reactions. Neem extract has antiseptic properties while turmeric helps in improving complexion. It also helps in controlling the whiteheads on my skin. It gives a cooling sensation on application which is really soothing.
It comes in an elegant looking spray bottle with a cap and is green in color. It smells great. It is alcohol free and does not sting the skin on application. It gives a natural glow to the skin and keeps it oil-free for 2-3 hours.
As compared to other branded toners, its pocket friendly. Kaya Skin Clinic Purifying Toner Acne Free costs 290 INR for 100ml, Revlon Toner costs 715 INR for 120ml while Neutrogena Fine Fairness Toner costs 299 INR for 150ml. Also, it is more effective against my oily skin than the other three.
Well I was initially a bit concerned about the presence of Propylene Glycol in the product due to its poor reputation but when I read more about this product, I got all my answers. Propylene Glycol has humectant properties i.e it tends to hold water to itself in order to prevent the product from drying. Glycerol has similar properties and is natural too. However, propylene glycol also affects the permeability of the skin opening it to toxins when present in high concentration of 25% and above. Generally cosmetics products have less than 5% propylene glycol so there is nothing to worry about.
The part that bothers me the most is that Propylene Glycol belongs to an alcohol family while they claim the product to be alcohol-free.
As far as Polysorbate 20 is considered, it is used in products as a surfactant, emulsifier, and fragrance ingredient. It is derived from Lauric Acid and is also a chemical mixture of sorbitol ethylene oxide, according to Wikipedia. Polysorbate 20 can serve as a dispersing agent and mix oil and water, work as a fragrance solubilizer and stabilizer, act as a lubricator, and have a soothing effect on the skin. Polysorbate 20 is FDA and CIR approved.
Positives of FabIndia Tea Tree Skin Toner
  • Contains Tea tree oil, salicylic acid, turmeric and neem extracts which are all effective against acne.
  • Renowned brand.
  • Good packaging.
  • Pocket friendly.
  • Nice fragrance.
  • Effective against oily skin for 2-3 hours.
Negatives of FabIndia Tea Tree Skin Toner
  • NOT alcohol-free as marketed in the product.
  • Polysorbate 20 as an ingredient has been reported to cause skin irritation in some. Hence a patch test is required before buying the product.
Would I buy it again? I will. Since it's good for my skin and is effective against acne bursts. It also helps in reducing the pore size if used regularly. However when I find a similar product from any other brand which is truly alcohol-free, I will switch.
Rating: 3.5/5 for not being alcohol-free.
Recommended for: Oily, combination and acne prone skin.

How Does Yoghurt Affect Acne?

Yoghurt is popular in many diets around the world, especially because it contains probiotics that help your digestive system to function properly. In fact, most of us know that the classic Mediterranean diet, which is beneficial for the skin and heart, is centered on yoghurt. Can yoghurt help acne-affected skin? Read on to find out!
How do probiotics affect skin health and what other skin-healthy ingredients does yoghurt have? Drawing on the fact that skin health is linked to gastrointestinal activity, we need to understand that probiotics are healthy bacteria in the intestinal track that aid digestion and improve nutrients absorption, thereby boosting your immunity. Other than that, when applied topically, the probiotics of yoghurt can hamper the growth of acne bacteria P. acnes. Yoghurt contains lactic acid that has an exfoliating effect, i.e. it dissolves dead skin cells and prevents clogging of skin pores. It contains fat that acts as a natural moisturizer, so it won't dry your skin like over-the-counter products that rely on benzoyl peroxide. What's more, yoghurt has astringent properties and can restore your skin's pH balance. So, it not only treats acne but also prevents acne problem.
Well, undoubtedly, yoghurt is one of the best acne home remedies. So, what are the best ways to reap its benefits? You can include it in your diet taking one or two servings a day. There is no dearth for yoghurt recipes - a smoothie of yoghurt enriched with antioxidant containing blueberries, or a strawberry granola parfait, or as an ingredient of any salad. When it comes to nutrients, yoghurt contains zinc and vitamin B that favor your complexion.
Yoghurt face masks are effective as well. Mix a cup of yoghurt with a teaspoon of lime juice to make a mask that provides an excellent toning effect. Or mix it with about two teaspoons of honey that will preserve the natural hydration of your skin. There are several other options - mix yoghurt with strawberries or carrots or oatmeal to utilize the nourishing properties of those ingredients. If you have very oily skin, adding some clay powder could improve the oil absorption capacity of the mask. When applied on your face, the mask provides a tightening effect felt as a tingling sensation. Leave on the mask for about fifteen minutes before rinsing it with water. To get the best result, apply the mask about three times a week.
However, you must stay warned that yoghurt may not be suitable for those who are allergic to dairy foods or have certain medical conditions, such as pancreatitis. It is best to get your doctor's advice before making dietary changes and start adding yoghurt to your diet in a gradual manner. If your skin is too sensitive, make sure that you apply a sunscreen after using a yoghurt mask because the exfoliating effect of lactic acid in yoghurt can invite sun damage.
The biggest advantage of yoghurt acne treatment is that you can make yoghurt at home. Even otherwise, it is readily available. Make sure that you avoid overly-processed varieties. Greek yoghurt and Kefir yoghurt are among the best types that are packed with probiotics.

Although it primarily affects teenagers, it can still occur even after the puberty stage. While some factors which are no longer in your control, there are still some things you can do to help prevent acne.
Wash Your Face Regularly
Washing one's face daily is an essential activity even if you don't have acne. Using your clean hands or a soft piece of cloth, you need to wash your face gently and thoroughly. This activity helps remove dead skin cells, excess oil, and other impurities from the surface of your skin. You need to remember that you need to use warm water, and make sure that it's not too hot. A mild facial cleanser also comes highly recommended. Avoid using a loofah and harsh soap when washing your face as this can lead to further skin irritation.
Weekly Exfoliation
Exfoliation is the process of wiping off the outer layer of your skin. This is so that your pores will be unclogged and so that your dead skin will be sloughed off. Remember that this only needs to be done once a week. Don't overdo it. You can either buy exfoliating products or make them yourself. When done correctly, this process will dramatically improve your complexion.
Regular Exercise
Exercise brings another unexpected health benefit other than keeping you in shape. When you exercise, you not only burn fat, but you also increase blood circulation to your skin. However, it is crucial to remember that you need to shower and wash your face immediately after every workout session. Sweat can clog up your pores.
